HiRef is consolidating its international growth strategy with a major new investment in Mexico. The Group has officially begun construction of a new production facility within Parque Industrial Platah, in the State of Hidalgo, further strengthening its industrial presence across the Americas.

The investment, worth more than 20 million dollars, reflects the Group’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for cooling technologies for digital infrastructure, particularly in the Data Center, cloud and artificial intelligence sectors.

The project represents a natural evolution of HiRef’s presence in Mexico, where the Group has already been operating through its own subsidiary for several years. With the new facility, its established commercial presence will be complemented by local production capabilities designed to serve the American markets with greater proximity and flexibility.

A new production hub for digital infrastructure

The first phase of the project involves the construction of a facility covering more than 4,000 square metres, with construction scheduled throughout 2027 and operations expected to begin between the end of 2027 and the beginning of 2028.

Once fully operational, the new facility is expected to create approximately 120 jobs, including both direct and indirect employment, contributing to the development of specialised skills and professional expertise in the region.
The production site will be organised around three flexible production lines, capable of handling different product families and configurations.
Two lines will be dedicated to smaller-scale equipment, including precision cooling systems, rack coolers and liquid cooling solutions such as CDU – Coolant Distribution Units – and Rear Door systems.
A third line will be dedicated to larger equipment, including chillers and fan walls, enabling HiRef to directly meet the requirements of Data Centers with different sizes and power densities.
This structure will allow the Group to further bring production closer to the market, increasing its ability to respond to the needs of customers and partners across the Americas.

Technology and expertise supporting growth

The decision to invest in Mexico comes at a time when the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence is accelerating the development and expansion of increasingly powerful digital infrastructures. Rising computing density is driving growing demand for cooling systems that are efficient, reliable and capable of managing increasingly high thermal loads.

For HiRef, the new facility therefore represents much more than an increase in production capacity.

“We do not see the new facility simply as an increase in our production capacity, but as an important step in shaping the HiRef of the coming years,” says Alberto Salmistraro, CEO of HiRef. “The growth of artificial intelligence and digital infrastructures is generating enormous demand for computing capacity and, at the same time, presenting an equally significant challenge: cooling these infrastructures in an increasingly efficient and sustainable way.”

“We want to be present where this transformation is taking place, bringing technology, production and expertise closer to the markets we serve. The new facility will allow us to further strengthen our presence across the Americas without changing the principle that has always guided our growth: investing in innovation and industrial capabilities while keeping the Group’s technological core and distinctive expertise in Italy.”

Mexico at the heart of HiRef’s international strategy

The launch of the new facility is part of the internationalisation process that HiRef has pursued since its foundation in 2001.
The Group develops precision cooling solutions for technological infrastructure, industrial processes and the tertiary sector, operating in international markets through subsidiaries, distributors, agencies and a network of partners.

The new facility in Hidalgo adds a new dimension to this presence: not only greater commercial proximity, but also the ability to manufacture directly in the Americas, creating an even closer connection between the technological expertise developed by the Group and the needs of local markets

The investment in Mexico will therefore strengthen HiRef’s ability to support the transformation of digital infrastructure across the Americas, while maintaining the Group’s technological expertise and innovation hub in Italy.
With a total workforce of 412 employees, HiRef continues its international growth journey, building an increasingly strong presence close to the markets and technologies that are shaping the future of digital infrastructure.
