High-efficiency cooling production with the XVA range
HiRef was chosen to supply a water-cooled liquid chiller intended to provide climate control for an important historic palace located in the heart of Venice. An architectural setting of outstanding value, characterised by extremely strict structural, logistical and acoustic constraints, required a highly specialised design approach and a fully customised HVAC solution. In this scenario, reliability, service continuity and respect for the surrounding urban environment represented essential requirements.
The solution proposed by HiRef consists of a water-to-water chiller from the XVA range, designed to deliver a total cooling capacity of 550 kW and sized to independently ensure full climate control for the entire building. The unit is equipped with screw compressors and shell-and-tube heat exchangers, a combination that ensures high energy efficiency and maximum long-term reliability. The refrigerant used is R513A, safety class A1, compliant with the latest environmental regulations. The twin-compressor configuration with dual circuits also guarantees high operational redundancy, a key factor for a building of such importance.
Particular attention was given to acoustic impact: the unit was selected in a Low Noise configuration and equipped with soundproof compressor enclosures, manufactured using specific noise-reduction materials. This was a crucial choice to minimise acoustic disturbance and ensure full compliance with the unique and sensitive Venetian context.
A key element of the project—and a decisive factor in the customer’s final decision—was the on-site disassembly and reassembly service. The chiller was fully manufactured and tested at HiRef’s facilities, then disassembled to allow transport and positioning within the building’s technical rooms, before being reassembled on site and recommissioned. This complex operation, managed with accuracy and expertise, made it possible to successfully overcome the logistical and installation challenges typically associated with such dense urban environments.
