Solution
NRG and DataBox ensure operational continuity and energy efficiency
Data Centers are essential for public institutions, supporting technological infrastructures and the management of sensitive data. The high energy consumption and heat generated by servers require careful thermal load management. Advanced air conditioning solutions are therefore crucial to ensure efficiency, security, and environmental sustainability.
For this reason, HiRef actively contributed to the development of the new data center at the C.E.N. (National Electronic Center) in Naples, a strategic infrastructure aimed at ensuring community safety and protection.
In close collaboration with the project designer, HiRef provided advanced solutions, including rack islands for structured server placement and precision air conditioning cabinets NRG. Following a thorough thermodynamic analysis, which helped identify the thermal loads and efficiencies required to reduce environmental impact, 16 perimeter direct expansion dual-circuit inverter air conditioners were selected. These units ensure operational continuity and precise supply temperature control. Configured with a downflow air pattern, the units use the raised floor to directly cool technological equipment, avoiding the need to air condition the entire room and significantly reducing operating costs. Additionally, the units were equipped with the Long-Distance Kit, which allows the extension of refrigerant lines up to 70 meters—a crucial feature for cooling certain areas located in the building’s interior.
The DataBox islands were also provided, designed to offer a complete structure capable of precisely hosting and cooling servers. This modular solution stands out for its installation flexibility and long-term energy efficiency, thanks to the Free Standing Corridor, which separates supply and return temperatures into cold and hot aisles.
The challenge: what enabled HiRef to secure this project?
The ability to tackle a complex logistical challenge made all the difference. The only way to transport the units on-site was via a lift with extremely limited dimensions. Thanks to HiRef's design flexibility, the frames of both the air conditioners and islands were specifically adapted to meet these limitations, enabling smooth and safe installation. This solution allowed HiRef to meet the project timelines without compromising on quality or operational efficiency.
