HiRef and sustainability: installation of CO2 Zero impact units

HiRef, in collaboration with HiRef Mexico, has successfully completed the installation of a state-of-the-art unit that uses CO2 as a refrigerant for a leading multinational in the bakery sector. This collaboration is a significant step toward the client's goal of reducing the environmental impact of their operations to the point of carbon neutrality. In fact, the company is moving toward using electricity and renewable energy in its production processes, planning to power all of their operations exclusively with renewable energy by 2025. HiRef is proud to contribute to this important project.

The provided solution is called CDA and is an air/water chiller capable of combining energy efficiency and environmental respect. The low environmental impact is ensured by the use of CO2 as a refrigerant (R744), characterized by a GWP = 1.

High efficiency/volume ratios are achieved thanks to the modularity of this solution and the use of both piston compressors driven by inverters and finned pack heat exchangers with a high exchange surface, installed in a "V" configuration.

Another crucial aspect of the CDA chiller is its ability to recover all the heat that would otherwise be dispersed into the atmosphere. This is made possible by a dedicated plate heat exchanger, which maximizes system efficiency and allows for optimal use of available energy resources. The recovered heat, in fact, enables the production of high-temperature water that can be used for many purposes, such as producing domestic hot water (DHW) for showers and bathrooms for employee use.

In this scenario, HiRef's innovative approach has allowed the multinational to concretely demonstrate its commitment to sustainable policies. By consolidating long-established relationships, HiRef has gained recognition for fully meeting the client's needs.
