NRG units ensure maximum operational reliability

An important national public entity selected HiRef for the supply of perimeter units, with the objective of ensuring reliable and energy-efficient operation for a large-scale Data Center located near Bari. The facility plays a strategic role in the management and protection of critical data, requiring solutions capable of guaranteeing operational continuity, resilience, and maximum performance under all operating conditions. For this reason, HiRef is proud to contribute to such an ambitious and crucial project.
From the earliest stages of the project, the primary objective was to ensure reliable and energy-efficient operation of the Data Center. The infrastructure required solutions capable of delivering absolute operational continuity and maximum performance in every working condition.
To meet these requirements, 42 direct expansion perimeter units from the NRG range were supplied, providing a total cooling capacity of approximately 800 kW. The units were custom-designed with raised frames to accommodate the condensate drain pump, due to the absence of a raised floor. The project included the replacement of 42 obsolete on/off units, resulting in a significant increase in overall energy efficiency thanks to the adoption of inverter-driven compressors, capable of precisely modulating cooling capacity according to the actual thermal load.
In addition, the careful positioning of the units was engineered to optimize airflow management within the rooms, enabling the future implementation of cold aisle containment and preventing the formation of potential hot spots. To complete the proposed solution, oversized remote condensers were selected to ensure continuous operation even under high outdoor temperature conditions.

And what about redundancy?

The decision to install 42 units ensures maximum operational continuity of the Data Center, eliminating any risk of downtime. The entire system was therefore designed according to an N+N redundancy architecture, providing the highest level of reliability. Unlike N+1 redundancy, where a single unit acts as backup for the entire room, the N+N configuration ensures that each operating unit has a corresponding backup unit. This approach guarantees continuous and efficient operation of the Data Center, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
