Solution

HWC and TSL units for a total capacity of over 1.5 MW

A healthcare facility in the Como area chose HiRef to revamp its cooling system, with the aim of replacing the existing obsolete chillers and improving the system’s overall efficiency. The project involved several areas of the facility, including outpatient rooms housing magnetic resonance imaging equipment, where uninterrupted cooling is essential to ensure the correct operation of the equipment and the continuous availability of the services provided.

The supply

To meet these requirements, a total of six HiRef chillers were installed, providing an overall cooling capacity of more than 1.5 MW: two HWC082CL units, two HWC162CL units and two TSL0596CQ units. The four HWC units were installed inside the technical room to replace the existing chillers. These air-cooled units feature Scroll compressors and high-static-pressure plug fans and are specifically designed for indoor installation. Their compact configuration made it possible to make effective use of the available space, simplifying the replacement process and minimising the need for invasive structural work. Units of the same size were connected to a common ductwork system. To prevent air recirculation and short-circuiting, dedicated overpressure dampers were installed and are controlled directly by the units themselves. The supply was completed by two TSL chillers serving an additional area of the facility. Equipped with Scroll compressors and shell-and-tube heat exchangers, these units deliver high energy efficiency without compromising reliability. Their multiple refrigerant circuits improve part-load operation and provide internal redundancy, increasing the reliability of each unit during maintenance or in the event of an operating interruption. Their low sound power level was another key factor in the selection process, particularly important in a healthcare environment that also includes inpatient areas.

HiRef supported the customer and the professionals involved from the earliest pre-sales stages, helping to assess the installation conditions and identify potential system-related issues in advance. This collaboration made it possible to develop a tailored solution combining compactness, low noise levels and service continuity.
